By monster, I mean great amounts of creativity. This is a shopping mall, business center, hotel, etc. It will be located near Venice, Italy. Love this stuff.

I was impressed with the choice of materials and the rendering of the interior. That's why I posted these images. Not too impressed, however, on the exterior. Seems everyone is going with the same style of creased flowing surfaces. Maybe this looks a little too much BMW. Hmmm. Click on each image to see a larger version.

My First 3D Animation With Alias

Everyone has a beginning, a first time. This clip was the first 3D animation I did with Alias Animator in 1990. This was before rendering was easy. Before ambient occlusion, radiosity, caustics, volumetric lights, global illumination, or any of the features we've come to take for granted. Ray tracing for animation was something that was only done on a CRAY supercomputer because it took to long. We've come a long way, baby!

Finding The Right 3D App For The Assignment

There are so many apps to choose from today. How can you choose which one to use? In the past it would take hours, even days, to get the colors, textures, and lighting to work. Today, results are almost instant. The picture below is a screen shot from Autodesk Alias Design 2010. The model came from Solidworks directly into Autodesk Inventor. From Inventor it was translated to Alias Design in a STEP format. Translation, materials, texture maps, lighting, were all done in one day on February 10, 2010.
